"The Eagle Spreads its Wings" NC Militia from 1820-1850

Our current exhibit, which will run through December, will interest the entire family, as it introduces the viewer to a little known facet of NC history: the NC Militia from 1820-1850.
This exhibit illustrates the colorful and glamorous regalia of the North Carolina's peacetime militia and army soldier. A collection can be seen of rarely displayed military items which features arms, equipment, uniforms and insignia from our state's formative years of the early 19th century to the eve of the Civil War.
